Alternative travel if ferries still on strike:

The Shipsands is a boat run by Toronto Harbour Tours (416 203-7786), hired by the city to take people to Ward's Island. In the afternoon and evening they run once an hour at 1:15, 2:15 and sometimes more often (schedule PDF below), loading in the dock just behind the Second Cup (where the outdoor seating is) at the foot of York St. They charge $6.50 for a return ride. The boat's capacity is 50 people. The priority is for Island residents.

Dan at Harbour Tours says he would let the people running the boat know that TCD has a dance happening and dancers should indicate to the boat operators that they're going to the AIA hall. He also suggested dancers spread out their departure times so everybody doesn't try to get on the same boat. No bicycles are allowed. Elizabeth at AIA said they prefer exact change.

If you can afford to spend a bit more, there are also water taxis available. Here's what Richard has found out, both charge $10.00 each way, both will take you to the back door of the AIA Hall:

  1. Roddy's Water Taxi (416 570-8004) loads at the foot of Yonge St.,
    Ramp #1 near Captain John's seafood boat/restaurant.

  2. Ralph's Water Taxi (416 203-8294) leaves near the Second Cup.

Where: At the Algonquin Island Clubhouse (Ward's Island)

Time: 3:00 p.m. - 9:30 pm

Cost: $15.00 Cdn ($10.00 Students, $8.00 under 17 years)

We will be having a one hour PICNIC break from around 5:30 to 6:30 pm so
it's best to bring your own picnic supper. We will supply water and lemonade.
